Kgalema Motlanthe was the Interim President of South Africa following Thabo Mbeki's resignation.
Motlanthe has been deputy President of the ANC since 2007, and a possible Presidential Candidate since 2005. He is described as a "level-headed," a "stabiliser" and a unifying figure.
In 1977, he was jailed on Robben Island with former President Nelson Mandela and ANC leader and current President, Jacob Zuma.
